 New Start

This is the event that impacted on my life

 The crash of 2002

The story is of my own personal experience of having the misfortune to meet a tourist on a blind left-hand corner near Whangamata on State Highway 25 who was driving along totally oblivious to the fact that they were on the wrong side of the road!

Innocently out for a ride with my local motorcycle club around 2.30 pm on a nice sunny day I happened around the same corner, within seconds things turned for the worse.

Braking as hard as I could and veering hard to the left as anyone would in the same situation ( as natural as putting pants on one leg at a time ) the last thing I expected was the idiot coming straight at me would swerve to his right leaving no room what so ever to miss him .

The impact of the full-on head on has left me typing one finger at a time but bloody lucky to be alive having broken nearly half the bones in my body.

My girl friend following on her own bike with a pillion was lucky to have had the time and skill to avoid hitting as well she had to cross the centre line to the right of us and try not to run over me as I was bouncing along on the road after bouncing off the tourists bonnet and windscreen.

The thing that worries me more than the fact that I am going to be stuffed for the rest of my life from the actions of some other dickhead is the fact that this sort of accident is nothing new to the wonderful people at Waikato hospital they see it too often already .

There needs to be something serious done about this problem before there are any more Kiwi's maimed and killed in the same manner.

I would like to do what I can to get this through to anyone who can do something to stop it from happening again.
